After his visit to his Grandma, sure enough, Matze’s got lots of things to talk about, such as his visits to the fairground and the icecream parlour, bedtime stories and thieves’ dens. Through, truth to tell, his mum needn’t really know that some of the details are a bit, say, hazy…

You can almost see author Andrea Hensgen’s mischievous twinkle as you read this story, vividly illustrated by Joëlle Tourlonias, about a child windowdressing and manipulating the truth with consummate ease. Many a parent and grandparent will chuckle with delight at the memory of similar scenes, and maybe there’s lessons to be learnt for the youngsters, too, for the next time round.
